What do I need to do after my vehicle has been towed?

Call first!! It is a good idea to confirm that your vehicle was towed by calling the local law enforcement number located on the tow sign at the entrance to the property. In the event that it was towed,
Impound Releases are done by appointment only!

Requirements:

  • Registered vehicle owners must bring photo ID and have registration that matches owner name.
    (A vehicle can be released to a third party only with a notarized authorization from the registered owner.)
  • Cash or Credit card. (credit card by phone is available)
  • Be sure to bring your keys!

What do I need to legally be able to tow a car from my property?


Properties must first have in plain view at all entrances a sign not less than 17 by 22 inches with lettering no less than 1 inch high stating the sites parking rules and regulations, the local police phone number and C.V.C Code 22658.

Can I legally tow an abandoned or junk vehicle off my property?


Yes! Once you have tagged the vehicle in question wth a violation notice and 96 hours has elapsed. The exception to the rule is if the vehicle lacks any major parts or equipment necessary to operate safely on the highway then you may legally remove the vehicle 24 hours after it has been tagged with a violation notice.

Common Reasons Vehicles are towed from private property

  • Disabled Parking without a properly displayed placard hanging from mirror,
    (This includes hash marks or blocking ramps)
  • Fire lane/ hydrant violations. (emergency vehicles responding to emergencies O.K.)
  • Vehicles double-parked, blocking in other vehicles, blocking garbage enclosures, blocking entrances/ exits from the property.
  • Vehicles parked in assigned spaces without the authorization from owner/ lease holder.
  • Parking pass violation (Expired, not displayed, or behind dark tint)
  • Non- registered or non- operable vehicles. (In violation of parking regulations)
  • Vehicles left abandoned or stored on private property without authorization of owner.
  • Vehicles displayed For Sale without authorization of property owner.

Who notifies the proper authority once a vehicle has been removed from my property?


Generally the towing company does this within one hour after the vehicle has been towed.
Property Owners or agents - Managers, tenants, leasers of assigned parking, or security officers, must be present in most cases to legally authorize tow-aways. Fire Lane/ Hydrant and disabled parking violations can be monitored and removed 24 hrs a day.

When a vehicle is damaged who is responsible?


The towing company is responsible for any damages caused by the towing or storage, however the property owner is responsible for the validity of the tow.

Should I be concerned with insurance?


Absolutely, this is an area that most properties neglect. Any vendor whether it's a towing company or not should provide you with One Million Dollars minimum in liability insurance.

What are your tow rates and who is responsible for paying them?


Retail Tow rates are charged hourly plus any additional services, equipment and storage that may apply. In most cases fees are the vehicle owner’s responsibility upon release.
